u/Pretend-Designer-615 · 18hI bless the gods everyday that we somehow won a ring with Dolan in charge
B
u/bramletabercrombe · 17hand he did everything he could to ruin it
L
u/Lifendz · 17hIt’ll probably never happen again so long as he’s in charge. But yeah, I’m so glad we beat the odds, the refs, and Dolan derailing the winning streak by inviting a pdf to a final game and somehow won.

D
u/DanUnbreakable · 17hHe’s not in charge. He’s taking the heat.
G
u/guanyu21 · 17hAccording to what/who? We aren't going to repeat with three guys worried about their contract status.
L
u/LeftyMode · 17hMy confidence in Leon is battling my disdain for Dolan.
A
u/AutisticFingerBang · 17hI doubt Leon wants to extend players 2 years early. This is just unnecessary. Yes we won, that doesn’t mean just hand KAT a bag that summer just to do it. Dudes acting like he isn’t getting millions in endorsements by playing for NY. Take 225 call it a day.
Y
u/yukpurtsun · 14hi think the idea with kats extension is to lower that option amount
R
u/RadicalMarxistThalia · 13hWe don’t start paying Brunson until the year after so I fail to see the importance of paying Towns less next year. If we can’t re-sign Hart next year with Towns making 61 as opposed to 55 (or whatever) then we’re sure not going to keep him the following year when Brunson is making 70+. I’d tell Towns to pick up the option and start a lower AAV extension the following year. Similar logic with Hart.
W
u/Worth-Independence-6 · 18hNot worried about this at all. The deals will eventually get done. But after a nice summer with great vibes it’s funny to see the doomers back out in full force already the past two weeks. I kind of missed you guys
U
u/USCBubbles · 17hI mean, did you even watch the preseason games? We're cooked. (/s in case not obvious)
J
u/JonnySports · 17hFire up tankathon
R
u/Ready2Rapture · 15hhttps://giphy.com/gifs/UqZ6Qd8WHM8sU97vOD Any day now he’s gonna figure it out
M
u/mmadiaa · 16hI can't believe they messed up Kevin Knox!
I
u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan · 18hIf they thought this would make me upset, I got bad news. We won. Idc.
N
u/n0-ragrets · 17hYeah dude all this is whatever. I’m still high from the title and will be for another 38 years. Then I’m protesting
C
u/cricket9818 · 17hThis sub doesn’t seem to understand what “public posturing” means when it comes to contract negotiations
N
u/NY-Black-Dragon · 17hI hate Dolan as much as the next guy, but I feel like he lives rent-free in this subs head. Also getting tired of all the "Orange man bad" bullshit. We lost ONE FUCKING GAME and won a fucking championship after God knows how long. MOVE THE FUCK ON!
C
u/cricket9818 · 17hEasy scapegoat He’s managing the second apron how every other team is
G
u/guanyu21 · 16hNope other teams have gone above the second apron, we haven't
C
u/cricket9818 · 16hVery misleading. There’s currently one team over it We have KAT because the wolves wanted to duck it Boston traded brown to duck it Literally every team does it
G
u/guanyu21 · 16hThe Suns, Wolves, and Celtics stayed over the 2nd apron for a full year. Other teams have been over the 2nd apron for part of the year, the Cavs I believe will be over this year. We aren't willing to do it for even one year. You can do it for a year and then restructure. They could lock guys in this year, be over the 2nd apron next year, and then restructure. Giving us 2 more years to contend. Dolan doesn't want to profit share.
C
u/cricket9818 · 15hEasy to say, hard to do
P
u/Pablo_Undercover · 17hOverpaying Kat would absolutely cripple us long term. I love the guy and he's a New York legend but we can't fuck our future for him. Maxing him out would mean saying goodbye to Hart or Bridges and the bench getting thinned out. It's definitely ok to play a little hard ball and if it affects his play on the court, that's gonna reflect negatively on him. Also lets be forreal, who are we bidding against? Lets get Kat paid but let's not kneecap ourselves in the process 276 million to a 31 year old center would be bad business. I love Kat at 50, I'm a big fan of Kat at 60 ...but I'm letting him walk at 70 a year. I think somewhere in the range of 58-64 would be very fair for him.
S
u/spideyv91 · 15hAt the same time if KAT walks it would cripple us as well. Who do replace someone like him with? It was hard enough finding someone to replace Mitch, KAT would be impossible and would be a huge downgrade.
P
u/Pablo_Undercover · 15hKat won't walk because where would he walk to? There's barely any teams with the space to sign him and the teams that would have mutual interest don't have the room. Kat "Walking" would be him opting into his PO, getting traded then extended, it's almost impossible that we lose him for nothing. And yes losing him would hurt but it I have no doubt Leon could find ways and means to reconstruct a championship team without him
N
u/nrulystowawaydotcom · 14hCharlotte
P
u/Pablo_Undercover · 14hI can't see charlotte going all in on Kat, they just traded Melo as a cost saving measure
C
u/ctorresc · 13hThey traded LaMelo to give the keys of the franchise to Knueppel and Miller
O
u/oochiewallyWallyserb · 13hI kinda agree. They have to handle this carefully cause no one else will offer him this kinda money anymore. His skillet is amazing but can easily fall off a cliff quickly with age. They need let him feel valued and also let him know at the same time who else is gonna offer you this money? Sac? Nets?
J
u/Jelly-Shot · 16hDo you not realize that until 2030 our future is to remain competitive since we do not own our picks and don't have a young talent pool to draw from since we haven't prioritize drafting and development. Not to mention paying kat is his reward for all he has done a literal championship its not an overpay. Also if you think no one will pay kat his money then be prepared to lose him for nothing and that's is really going to mess up the future
P
u/Pablo_Undercover · 16h1) Yes I do realise that which is why I don't want to hamstring the team by having 35% of the cap going to one player and having to lose our bench and supporting cast (see Nuggets) 2) What team has the cap space to sign Kat to a max and what team would even want to (provide examples please). 3) Yes I agree he deserves to get rewarded, and anything over 230 a year for him would be a reward. Our team has been shit for years due to overpaying aging stars, I don't want to start that again. Maxing a 31 y/o Center is how you make sure that we're NOT competitive moving forward
J
u/Jelly-Shot · 16hlet me make it clear that im not saying max Karl to 270 but don't low ball him with 200 that is incredibly disrespectful, also if kat hits open free agency teams will be in line for his services and the knicks will most likely lose him for nothing. right now a stretch 5 Big is a premium in the nba and we have one of the best in the leauge. the reality is that the team will be broken next season and if we are picking who we chose to keep then that decision is easy brunson, kat, and og every one else is fair game
P
u/Pablo_Undercover · 16h"teams will be in line for his services" which teams can afford him? I agree that lowballing him was fucked up but 220+ a year is more than fair imo. Players don't even go to open market any more, if we do want to move on from him he'll probably opt into his PO get traded then extend
S
u/spideyv91 · 15hSounds like they only offered the 200 and not anything in the middle.
P
u/Pablo_Undercover · 14hI would assume their thinking was offer 200, they'll counter with 220, we'll agree. but I think they playd a little too much hard ball
F
u/forsuredudelol · 15hA contract isn’t a reward. You give a player a 4 year contract because of what you think he can do in the next 4 years, not what he has done. I know it sounds silly but that’s how it works. Not a reward
S
u/spideyv91 · 15hCurry and Kobe both got “reward” contracts. Curry is getting 56 million for the next two years and he hasn’t been healthy since the warriors championship.
J
u/jo0g · 15hIm sorry but KAT and Kobe/Curry are not the same thing
