Knicks announce they won’t negotiate contract extensions until ‘later in season’The New York Knicks will not be discussing contract extensions with eligible players for the foreseeable future, per a Knicks spokesperson. “As an organization, our entire focus is on preparing for the upcoming season and delivering another year for our fans to be proud of,” the team’s statement read. This statement comes just days after Karl-Anthony Towns told reporters that he doesn’t expect an extension to get done before the season and has been frustrated with how far apart the two sides have been in negotiations. u/SerCharles · 17hnot concerned with the business side of things, at this point. season is about to start, and we have a squad under contract for this year. all I care about is the product on the floor right now.

u/AdeGamisou2020 · 17hSame, but I have a hard time believing this won't be a distraction that hurts that product. I hope I'm wrong.

u/theomegachrist · 13hYeah I feel like a lot of fans are in denial. You can still be a professional and have this affect your play. The idea of taking a pay cut because of the salary rules is the reverse of what it has been for years. I saw one fan saying it's good the Knicks are negotiating down with Towns. I mean think about any other job. You just hit the absolute pinnacle of your profession and your job is like if you want to stay at the company we're going to need you to take a 20% pay cut. I think it's pretty normal to be affected by that

u/bbank8744 · 16hHonestly kind of happy they are just putting this out there. People will still bring it up every few days but just say we're not picking this back up until later in the season.

u/chowbox617 · 16hI expected this and also expect them to work something out eventually

u/theomegachrist · 13hThere are a lot of good fans on this sub and I get that the new cap rules make it so you have to have some negotiation, but if you are saying KAT doesn't deserve to get paid you are a lesser fan

u/DifferentProcess6765 · 4hWhy should I care which multi millionaire gets the money?

u/theomegachrist · 4hYou wouldn't if you were a casual fan

u/johnla · 17hPay the man. Our champ window is this year and next year. That's it. We're not saving any money for "the future". The future is right now. Give everyone the max.
T
u/TannerGlassMVP · 8hGive everyone the max. Still glad this sub doesn't run the team

u/Longjumping_Gap97 · 13hI hate this because I really feel guys hold back in a contract year cuz they don't want to get hurt, I wish they'd lock him up
J
u/jjazznola · 12hJust play ball.
M
u/Maxxjulie · 15hHe's under contract to play this year and they are mostly together again to make another run at it Appreciate KAT, but long term I assume he'll be an injury prone declining player. Why would they reward him to be under contract later on when they know he'll be older and not as good and missing games a lot
T
u/theomegachrist · 13hI don't know, you actually sound like a pretty bad fan
B
u/Background_Ad4452 · 17hNot worried about any of this!! Towns, Hart and Deuce will resign by the trade deadline. Let’s focus on championship repeat run. Banner / Ring night at MSG is in 11 days! Gonna be a legendary night with Lebron/Philly in town 🔥🔥🔥
